Obligatory panoramas.  Here's an overall one of the park.

There's the rest of San Francisco in the background.
A portion of Glen Canyon Park.
A scrub jay.
A succulent.  I found this growing way up on the ridge on top of a rock.
This too.  It's a weird lichen... looks a lot like grass!
Some sort of wild olive (I think).

I think it's a mole.  Yeah, it's probably a mole.

Lichen.  There was tons of it growing on a stand of trees.

San Francisco

Well, here I am in San Francisco.  It was quite the journey getting here... My first flight from Hartford went without a hitch, however when I reached Newark, I soon discovered that my flight would be delayed by an hour.  I calmly waited at the terminal and then boarded the plane, fully expecting to take off within a few minutes of finding my seat.

Much to my dismay, the pilot informed the other passengers and I shortly after we began to taxi for the runway that our flight was further delayed due to severe weather on the West Coast.  It wasn't too bad though, just an hour more of waiting, and we would, he assured us, be in the air.  I did my best to get comfortable in my seat.  To my left, a very large man.  To my right, a wall... a wall that was not only too close for comfort, but came complete with a sign reading "By law this seat's reclining function has been restricted because of the proximity of an emergency exit" or something to that effect.  Oh well... one more hour and then we can begin the six hour flight... that's not so bad.

Again, we began to approach the runway.  Again, the pilot informed us through the intercom that there would be yet another delay.  Apparently, immediately after we had received clearance for departure, the air traffic controller had changed his mind and decided we needed to wait on the ground for a further hour and a half.  At this point, I was pissed off.  After making a few phone calls, drawing a sketch of the airplane cabin in my notebook (the caption reads: "PURGATORY: Continental Airlines Welcomes You!"), we finally took off, three hours after our scheduled departure.  Delightful.

But I digress.  San Francisco is as beautiful as it was when I was last here, despite the rain.  Yesterday I took a walk down to Glen Canyon Park, which was very nice and afforded me a great many opportunities for pictures.  Mysterious lichens, succulents and subterranean mammals were among my most interesting finds (I'll post pictures shortly).  After that my sister, her boyfriend Todd and myself went to dinner at a Thai restaurant nearby.  It was a good day, much more eventful than today.

That's all for now.

I leave for San Francisco in less than 24 hours.

Well, it's almost time for me to say goodbye to Connecticut for the most extended trip of my life.  I've got everything packed, and I hope it all gets there in one piece.  Not too much to write about, just sort of confirming that this blog is working properly.

I visited Wesleyan last night and saw many (though not all) of my favorite people.  I'm glad I did.  I'm going to miss them, and my family, and my girlfriend, but hopefully all of this newfangled internet-type technology will help me stay in touch with them more easily.  I will be back before graduation, though, so I'll be able to see everyone properly when I get back.

That's all for now.  Next time, pictures.  I promise.

Post numero 1

Well, looks like I've got a blog once again.  Let's try to post a picture.
